This writing workshop is designed to help you produce a clear and well structured text or essay in English. It is particularly useful for those students who intend to do ESOL examinations such as Cambridge FCE and CAE, IELTS or TOEFL and for those intending to do academic study in an English-speaking environment. However, it will be of use to all those who need to plan, structure and edit essays, articles, blog posts or commentaries in English.
In these short workshops students will learn and practise these four skills:
Planning – deciding upon the structure and content. Identifying your audience. Deciding upon a style and level of formality.
Drafting – writing a first draft
Revising and Editing – does your text follow your plan? Are there any omissions or unnecessary text? identifying mistakes, avoiding redundancy and verbosity. Simplifying and improving clarity.
Students will look at model examples of topics and structure, carry out shared and independent writing tasks, learn how to recognise errors and improve upon style.
